A Note from Abraham Thomas...

The following letter arrived for Pastor Lionel, from our missionary to India--Abraham Thomas. This is the same ministry that recently aquired 13,000 books from Calvary Church, to begin a collegiate library. Many of our members were able to catalog the books in Grand Rapids before they were shipped to the seminary.

Dear Pastor Young,

We were blessed by the ministry of brother Brent Whitefield (see post below for details). Everyone was happy that God brought the right person for our missionary conference and graduation service. Thanks for sending him to us. Please also thank the church.

Logos Graduation service was held on Saturday the 7th. It lasted for two hours. The service was held on college ground to accommodate over 900 participants. The temperature was up in 90s in previous days but it cooled down on Saturday and had enough breeze. We served lunch for all participants. Thirty Seven students graduated. Praise the Lord. It was a great time of rejoicing and glorifying God.

Thanks so much for praying and supporting this ministry.
Abraham

Passage to India

Dr. Brent Whitefield arrived in India last Saturday for a full week of lectures. Of course he told the staff he would have no time for fun - but the first picture sent to us by our missionary is telling! (Riding around India on an elephant? That sounds like fun to me.) Brent will be spending the full week with our missionary Abraham Thomas who founded the Logos School of Theology and has planted more than 100 churches in Southern India. Brent is now in Kerala State (near Trivandrum), a region that has been hit by persecution and natural disaster in the last few years. He is slated to speak in churches, lecture daily in the school of theology, speak at a confererence for pastors and give the keynote address at the school's commencement service. We are praying for you Doc.

Welcome, Cary Nack

Dear Church Family,

I hope you will join me in welcoming Cary Nack to our pastoral staff. Cary will be overseeing our assimilation ministries (attracting and keeping new members), small group and discipleship ministries and our congregational care ministries (counseling, recovery, visitation). Cary has a B.A. in Communications from the University of Iowa and a M.A. in Education and Leadership from Dallas Theological Seminary. He brings with him the experience of having served on the staff of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Dallas and working with the Harvest Bible Chapel Fellowship in Rolling Meadows, Illinois. His passion is helping the local church experience spiritual, numerical and relational growth for the glory of God. After an extensive interview process, the elders unanimously extended a call to Cary to join our team and he will join us the first week of March. Our elders also extended an invitation to Dr. Brent Whitefield to remain on our staff in a part-time capacity to oversee World Missions and assist with teaching and preaching.

We give thanks to God for his provision - and look forward to his continued hand of blessing at Calvary Church. Please join me in extending a warm Calvary Church welcome to Cary, Maija and their four beautiful children - Gabrielle, Jonathan, Dillon and Abigail (not pictured).

Grateful for God's Provision,

Pastor Lionel
