Ideas matter. They start world wars, justify genocide, keep humanitarian workers out of their country (witness Myanmar) and send people to hell. That's why theological education is important to me. Good theological education changes what we do "on the streets." For example, those who were taught that all they should do is preach the gospel (a popular notion in 1930s American fundamentalism subsequently brought to the mission field) will walk by the blind beggar on the street and hand them a tract. (I'm not joking.) Those who were taught that we should be all about the "social gospel" (caring only for a person physical needs) may start a homeless shelter for beggars - but will do nothing for their eternal souls. These are issues I help students wrestle with in the classroom so that they can take their theology to the streets. Poor training results in "soul physicians" who go out and perform lobotomies on unsuspecting souls. Ideas matter - especially when eternity is at stake. Thanks Calvary Church for letting me spread the Word.

This statement is one of the most profound truths describing the reason for division, and lack of productivity for the cause of Christ on the mission field.
AMEN and AMEN!

Thanks for taking time to post on the blog. Though many don't leave comments, I know they are checking it out and staying connected with what you're doing there. I wish I were there ministering with you...one of these days! For now, I am enjoying taking care of our guys. See you in a few days!
lionel, i think yesterday was the day for the installment of your bookcases. things here are very much the same as when you left, only when you come back you'll have a desk!!! yea! no more sitting on a step ladder...we bought you a real office chair. :)
studying through Paul's mission strategies for my Acts & Early Church History class...i've been thinking a lot about you--training leaders to do the work, building up the body (ephesians 4:12-13). we're praying for you.
